| Fenland Light Railway
The Fenland Light Railway was first established over 20 years ago from members of the Ramsey Miniature Steam Railway Society. The present membership of around 25 souls of varying backgrounds enjoy a friendly and sociable atmosphere whenever we meet. Our present available engines range from an ever reliable Romulus, a petrol 0-4-0 and 2 electric loco's. The rolling stock consists of a pair of sit in coaches, some sit-astrides and a variety of permanent way wagons. We operate on an oval of track of approx. 300 yards long the majority of which is at sea level but dips below mean sea level in a few places. This is probably unique in the United Kingdom except if you visit a mine. Mereside Drove station is positioned by the verge side car park and entrance, opposite to this is Refreshment Halt approached by reversing into our terminus station where our refreshment room is located, here you can enjoy a nice cup of tea, coffee, or, a soft drink with a piece of real Homemade Cake while watching the trains go by and enjoying the peaceful surroundings. Its nice outside when the weather is fine or inside if some shelter is required. To catch a train from Mereside Drove and back again (a total of 3 circuits) is just One Pound, that's £1.00, per person. Why not take advantage of our B.O.G.O.F. offer at just £2 !! You will find the majority of our members on running days either working or resting and they will be more than happy to h ave a chat. So why not find out what we do, whether it is Permanent Way work, Signalman, Driver or making tea, there are activities to suit all abilities. You might even wish to become a member. Between running days we meet each Sunday afternoon for Maintenance and repair, tea, cakes and chat and then again Thursday evenings after 19:00 to continue where we left off on Sunday! |
